The Rules

1. Be on time! (Being late for practice more than 3 times is cause for dismissal from the team. Practices will START at the posted time.

2. All practices are mandatory! Each athlete is allowed 1 unexcused missed practice additional practices have the following consequences. After 1 unexcused missed absence the athlete will receive a warning. A 2nd unexcused missed absence will result in not being able to participate in the next meet. A 3rd unexcused missed practice will lead to immediate dismissal from the team. Roll will be taken daily!

3. Dual sport athletes. Case by Case basis with approval from Athletic Director.

4. No drinking or smoking. All athletes must refrain from drinking or smoking. If an athlete drinks or smokes while an active member of the team they will be dismissed.

5. Excused absences. If you need to miss summer practices please get in touch with Coach Tompkins to ask for approval at Mark.Tompkins@wjccschools.org

6. Emergency – Medical or family emergencies are considered excused absences.

Points of Emphasis for 2021

  • Mandatory practices start Monday, August 2nd.

  • All athletes must report to practice on Monday, August 2nd at 7:00am with a completed VHSL Sports physical dated after May 1st, 2021 for the start of the Cross Country season as well as other Jamestown High Requirments. (Online registration etc) 

  • Cross Country, athletes may not have more than 10 days of excused absences prior to the start of school to be on the Cross Country team.

  1. All practices and meets above are mandatory unless excused by head coach.  

  2. If you are an athlete that has the possibility of making the top ten you must commit all the way to the end of the season.  If you are unable to make this commitment please do not do Cross Country. 

  3. Please review the Calendar (Subject to Change) in detail with your parents to ensure you do not have conflicts with Cross Country practices and meets.

  4. The  invitationals are on Saturday’s and are on 9/18/21, 10/2/21, and 10/16/21 athletes must attend all three invites if the team is allowed to take all atheltes.  

  5. Club sport practices, road races or other athletic events do not take precedence for athletes on the Cross Country team.

  6. All athletes must have a sports physical dated after May 1st, 2021.  If an athlete does not have a physical, they will be sent home and the absence will be count as an unexcused absence.

  7. Athletes must ask permission to run road races during the cross country season.

  8. No athletes in the top ten boys and girls will run any races within 10 days of the region or state meet.

  9. If an athlete skips practice, they will receive a warning.  2nd practice missed is suspension from next meet.  3rd practice missed is dismissal from team.
